Thank you for your support!

Movement Disorders Foundation is a 501(c)3 organization. We help people with movement disorders live better lives through collaborative partnerships with those who conduct innovative research, offer professional and patient-focused education and provide unique care services.

We’ve made it easier to designate your contribution to what matters to you most - whether it's movement disorders research, a specific research project, our weekly eNewsletter or for general support of our work and organization.

MDF General Fund

MDF General Fund

MDF is committed to funding the most promising, translational research and treatments to improve the quality of life for people with movement disorders.

We find, assess and support today's "undiscovered pioneers" in research and provide seed funding for projects that have a clear possibility of working at scale, but for which grant funding may be difficult to obtain. MDF funding accelerates such projects to a more reliable proof of concept.

Our weekly eNewsletter provides the latest advances and discoveries in movement disorders research each Thursday to individuals living with movement disorders and their care partners. Your tax-deductible contribution to our general fund helps underwrite critical administrative and programming support for these projects.

MDF Young Investigator Pilot Grant Program

MDF Young Investigator Pilot Grant Program

Young Investigator Pilot Grants (YIPG) fund “high risk/ high reward” translational and clinical research that establishes cross-disease analysis and investigation into the etiology, pathophysiology and/or treatment of multiple movement disorders. Small in scope, large in impact, we are the only grantmaker in Colorado that exclusively funds cross-disease research in the spectrum of clinical disorders that includes Parkinson's disease, dystonia, essential tremor, Huntington's disease and more.

These grants represent our foundation's greatest commitment to research that advances the prevention, treatment and/or ultimate cure for all movement disorders. Your tax-deductible contribution to our YIPG program can be designated to a specific category of disease research.

PD SELF

Help fund current PD SELF programs for recently diagnosed Parkinson's patients.

Movement Disorders Foundation

Help us develop and lead innovative programs that enable patients to better manage their movement disorder diseases.

Huntington’s Disease Clinic

Help fund our Denver-based, nationally recognized Huntington’s Disease Clinic.

MDF eNewsletter

MDF eNewsletter

We launched the Movement Disorders Foundation eNewsletter in 2022 with a simple aim - to bring the latest advances and discoveries in movement disorders research to individuals diagnosed with a movement disorder and their care partners.

From our first issue through today, the response has been strong - with an industry leading 46% open rate week in, week out.

For as little as $5 a month, your tax-deductible donation can help us keep the eNewsletter free for everyone. And a $3000 challenge grant from one of our supporters allows you to make twice the impact with your support of the eNewsletter now through December 31, 2024.

MDF Young Investigator Pilot Grants

Our Young Investigator Pilot Grants support high-risk/high-reward innovative projects - from conception and one-off testing to proof of concept - that are aimed at developing new insights into the pathophysiology, etiology and/or treatment of multiple movement disorders.

Annual grants of $50,000 are awarded for direct support of research. If substantial productivity is demonstrated in the first year, the grant may be renewed for an additional year if the awardee can demonstrate how the funding will facilitate competition for a NIH R01 grant or equivalent.

In 2024, the Movement Disorders Foundation announced its inaugural round of YIPGs. To be eligible for consideration, applicants were required to address specific applicability to Huntington’s disease in their research project, as well as one other movement disorder, and demonstrate the potential to facilitate rapid translation to clinically useful therapies.

Young Investigator Pilot Grants are funded by donors like you, and the Movement Disorders Foundation offers individuals the opportunity to underwrite individual research projects or specific disease categories such as Huntington's disease, Parkinson's disease and essential tremor.

Unlike other funders of medical and scientific research, the Movement Disorders Foundation provides donors of every level with routine communication on their funded research project, including breakthroughs and progress reports, videos from researchers and virtual lab tours, impact metrics, Q&A sessions with researchers and more.

Most importantly, 100% of all donations from our supporters are strictly allocated to our research grants. These funds can only be spent to pay researchers. Our administrative expenses are covered separately by annual fund contributions.

Donors also can create customizable webpages for collecting donations online on behalf of a dedicated research project or a category of movement disorders. Click here for more information or e-mail admin@movementdisordersfoundation.org to schedule an appointment with our executive director.

   Gifts & Grants Policy

The Movement Disorders Foundation as a matter of policy awards grants for the pursuit of research only to those institutions that do not charge any fees or indirect costs. The Foundation itself does not subject any awarded grants to any overhead charges of any kind in order to maximize the value of gifts made to the Foundation for research purposes.
